Cutting down mature trees without a good reason is a crime.
We should find out who did benefit financially from this heinous act.
Too bad it is not easy to recall our city council since they are all
asleep at the switch.
YES !!!! Cutting down mature trees IS a crime. These blessed Standing Ones are our allies in so many ways… this was an act of violence. Please write letters to the Sun & Alameda Journal !!
My heart is broken by the destruction of all of these beautiful mature trees!!! I walked around Park today and without an exception business people and shoppers alike were mortified and felt violated & powerless. When the movie theater was to be refurbished there were years of dispute allowed. Without a doubt this tree chopping warranted more notice and opportunities for dispute than the theater project. Most of the people of Alameda supported the theater and adore it now. Frankly, I thought the battle over the reopening of the theater was a bit ridiculous but at least the people had a voice. The final insult the city dealt to its residents and businesses is to say that this project was done to improve the urban aesthetic of Park St.. Can anyone of us believe this?
We are so efficient in destroying what takes decades to grow. Thank you for memorializing this insanity.

Yes, the city council is asleep at the wheel. Out to lunch all day, all night, all week, all month.
